Acupuncture can be a good ally in the fight against stress
How can a needle placed in any area of the body lead to reduced stress, an initially emotional problem? "It is that every point used in acupuncture corresponds to a specific region of the brain," explains the president of the Brazilian Medical Association of Acupuncture (Amba), Ruy Tanigawa. Thus, the method plays on neurotransmitters responsible for stress symptoms such as anxiety, irritability, apathy, depression, disturbed sleep, reduced libido, emotional hypersensitivity, difficulty concentrating, and less willingness to engage in physical activities.

The method consists of striking needles of thin thickness (up to 50% more). the effectiveness of acupuncture in the treatment of stress was analyzed in a study of the Pontifical Catholic University (PUC) of Campinas. The study treated 20 adults, 15 women and five men, aged 27 to 65 years, with stress pictures. After ten individual sessions, with weekly frequency and duration of approximately 50 minutes, a 75% decrease in the presence of stress was found.
According to Tanigawa, in practice, few patients seek acupuncture clinics to treat stress. "What happens is that the person is going to for another reason and, after a time in treatment, notice a feeling of well-being that he did not have and concludes that he was stressed."
Improvements are usually noticed from the As they act through the nervous path, virtually all needle applications lead to the release of substances such as endorphin and serotonin, which have calming and antidepressant powers. In these cases, stress goes away as a consequence of healing another problem.
When the patient's complaint is about stress, treatment turns specifically to that issue. "If you are in a dangerous situation, every animal needs a little stress to survive. What the body does is produce more cortisol, which will cause the brain to use less energy from glucose. sent to the muscles, so that the animal has the strength to escape, "explains the expert. It turns out that when the person gets stressed for a long time, he always starts to manufacture cortisol in abnormal measures. What acupuncture does to resolve the disorder is to balance the suprarenal glands, responsible for the production of cortisol.
Amba president emphasizes that the treatments with acupuncture are very personal. "As the effects vary greatly from patient to patient, there are no points that, when triggered, solve everyone's problem. You have to find out the perfect combination of points for each individual," he says. The number of sessions required also depends on each person. "In some cases, the results are immediate, but usually by the fourth or fifth application, the difference is already felt," says Tanigawa.
For those who are very afraid of jabs - which is good to remember, they do not hurt - there is the so-called Stiper, which are soft pellets produced with crystallized silicon and agglutinated with vegetable cellulose, two elements 100% natural, without side effects and without contraindications. Silicon is the most powerful computer of waves and frequencies and has a degree of efficiency very close to that of the needles. The adhesive is kept on the skin for a period of three to six days and then removed by the acupuncturist himself.
