Understand chikungunya fever

Chikungunya fever is a dengue-like disease caused by the CHIKV virus. Its mode of transmission is by the bite of the infected Aedes aegypti mosquito, and less commonly by the mosquito Aedes albopictus .

Its symptoms are similar to those of dengue: fever, malaise , body aches, headache, apathy and tiredness. However, the major difference between chikungunya fever is its involvement of the joints: the virus advances in the joints of the patients and causes inflammation with severe pain accompanied by swelling, redness and local heat.
