Fissures and craniofacial conditions are in focus in the month of July

Defects and orofacial and craniofacial conditions were highlighted in July during the National Month of Awareness and Prevention of Craniofacial Fissures and Injuries.

Fissure is a birth defect in which parts of the face that form the upper lip remain separate, rather than joining before birth, according to the American Dental Association. Similar separations can occur in the roof of the mouth or palate, says the ADA.
