Frozen song inspires people to fight against anorexia

Frozen song inspires people to fight against anorexia

In addition to entertaining children and even adults , the Frozen animation, launched in 2013, is inspiring women to recover from anorexia. Researcher Su Holmes of the University of East Anglia in the UK suffered from anorexia. It was when she watched the Frozen animation and was inspired by the song Let it go.

She felt the music was tied to her fight against anorexia. And she thought to herself, "Am I crazy or does this song seem to deal with my own situation?".

After conducting a Google search, she discovered that she was not the only person struggling with the anorexia that identified herself with the song. "I found many people who thought the same on the internet, on blogs of people who had recovered from anorexia," he said.

Two interpretations

Su Holmes identified two groups of people with anorexia who interpreted the film in completely different ways . The first one focused on the song Let it go. "Because in it Elsa speaks of the pressure she suffers to be a perfect girl and how she needs to get rid of it," she says.

This group used music as an ally to overcome anorexia. "There is a long history of cases of anorexia involving 'perfect' girls and the pressures of parents and society for them to be so. Many girls say that the story of the character Elsa is very similar to their relationship to anorexia," he explains.

The other group, according to Holmes, relied on the figure of Elsa as an incentive to eat less. They say, 'This is how I felt when my mother discovered my anorexia, and I thought I would not be that perfect girl anymore.' "
