Having a younger brother can reduce the risk of obesity in the first-born, says study

University of Michigan have discovered a curious way to prevent childhood obesity: having more than one child.

According to the researchers, the birth of a sibling, especially when the firstborn is between two and four years old, was associated with a healthier body mass index. In addition, the research also showed that children who did not have a sibling were three times more likely to be obese.

The study had the participation of 697 children from the United States who had recently gained siblings. They observed measures of weight and height of children at 15 months, 24 months, 36 months and 54 months.

Children who gained a brother when they were between 24 to 36 months and from 36 to 54 months had a higher BMI healthy than those who did not have younger siblings.

Scientists observed that children who did not have a younger sibling were three times more likely to develop obesity in preschool.

An explanation for the result of the analysis is related to the type of feeding that the parents give to the firstborn after the youngest child is born. In addition, the researchers point out that from the age of three they develop long-term eating habits. Thus introducing healthier foods can have a positive impact.

Another explanation is that the arrival of the younger brother would cause the older brother to move more, contributing to the caloric expenditure.

Today's appliances are less appealing visually and less painful, and users do not need as many consultations with the orthodontist. More than half of the teenagers recently questioned about their handsets report that they are not aware of them. More than a quarter of them say the device gives them a cool look.
