Adhesive insulin that can replace injections for diabetics is being developed by scientists

Patients with diabetes who treat themselves with insulin need to constantly monitor their body's glucose levels to see if they need to correct the amount of insulin needed to metabolize that sugar. This procedure is even more important for people with type 1 diabetes because these people do not produce any insulin naturally in their body. The process involves jabbing a finger at the devices and calculating the amount of insulin needed, which can be dangerous because the wrong amount of the hormone can lead the patient to hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia.

To avoid these problems and make the process more efficient, scientists at the University of North Carolina have developed a clever patch, able to notice changes in blood glucose levels and thus release the correct amount of insulin in the patient's blood. The sticker is a gray square the size of a coin, with hundreds of micro-needles injected into the skin.

However, the patch has only been tested in mice with type 1 diabetes, and studies with humans have yet to be made before this technology reaches the market. The study with the first results of the adhesive was published in the scientific journal of the American Academy of Sciences. In it, they show that in the rodent model, they were able to keep blood sugar levels stable for up to nine hours.

There is more than one theory for the cause of this condition. It is an acquired disease where the invader (the hair) finds an unfavorable anatomy due to a vulnerable intergluteal groove and a suction force capable of introducing the hair into the subcutaneous tissue. The gluteal movement is responsible for the suctioning and entrapment of hairs in the subcutaneous tissue, with consequent folliculitis and abscess.
