When it comes to beauty, the desire to repair some flaws in the silhouette guides the thinking of most women. Lipoenxertia is an alternative to silicone prostheses, widely used in regions such as breasts, buttocks or thighs. The technique of lipoenxertia allows to take and put fat from areas in the body where the genetics was not so favorable. It is a kind of remaning of body fat. It is taken from the abdomen and placed on the buttock, for example. After a few hours of surgery, it is possible to dry the belly and gain that hard butt.

In recent research, we can affirm that the graft reintegration rate increased considerably, where, on average, 30% of the aspirated volume is useful material. Thus, in one liter of fat, 300 ml can be used for grafting to other parts of the body. The technique of lipoenxertia is still indicated for the increase in breasts of medium to small size without sagging - that is, it is indicated for those who have little breast and want a subtle increase. It can be associated to the breast prosthesis in specific situations with more complexity, in which only the implant does not provide good results. The technique is also given indication for breast reconstruction after withdrawal for cancer treatment. Some physicians believe that lipoenxertia may make it difficult to discover breast cancer, but an experienced radiologist may detect a fat necrosis. This is why I always ask my patients for mammography exams before any surgical procedure.

Fats also have stem cells

Stem cells are present in the graft used in the lipoenxertia technique. It is possible to separate and treat in the laboratory, but this procedure is still in the research phase. However, in major medical congresses around the world, stem cell studies are presented regarding the manipulation of adipose tissue. The use of stem cells is already a reality, both in the experimental field and in the clinical application, due to its potential in the treatment of various diseases. A recent discovery of fat as the main source of mesenchymal stem cells has put the specialty of Plastic Surgery at the heart of the matter, because it is easy for practitioners to manipulate fatty tissue.In recent studies to obtain new sources of stem cells, adipose tissue (fat) shows to be a thriving source of natural resources. The aspiration and preparation in the laboratory is similar to that used for the bone marrow. Scientific studies indicate that the use of stem cells in cosmetic plastic surgery - for the rejuvenation of the face, lips, back of the hand and improvement of cicatricial lesions - is a promising reality. Strictly speaking, some of the fat removed is put on another part of the body. We now see improvement in radiotherapy lesions when we perform fat grafting due to stem cells.

We can thus verify that the capacity of regeneration of the tissues by adult stem cells represents a revolutionary potential within the parameters of preventive medicine. As with the procedure with umbilical cord cells (hematopoietic lineage), the fat and skin stem cells can be separated and then multiplied millions of times. They can then be cryopreserved at very low temperatures, with the possibility of future or even immediate use in various clinical applications. From this premise, the lines of research are expressive, both in cell therapy and in tissue bioengineering, pointing to the cure of diseases and the regeneration of tissues from the mesenchymal stem cells.

Therefore, stem cells represent a natural and inexhaustible source of repair of any tissue of the human body, which has the natural ability to self-regenerate and give rise to various types of tissues. However, despite the enthusiasm of researchers in the world's leading research centers and the population, much research is needed with incentive policies, respecting the ethical breadth of the issue.
