Klein's solution - consisting of saline and adrenaline - is first infiltrated - to reduce the chances of bleeding and, consequently, surgical trauma. The cannulas are introduced through the skin and into the adipose tissue (layer that comes just after the skin), from where they aspirate - through a vacuum system - the localized fat. The points at which the cannulae are inserted vary according to the patient's anatomy and the technique used by the surgeon.

Liposuction can be done under general, epidural or local anesthesia, depending on the number of regions covered. If the anesthesia is general, there is a need for orotracheal intubation and the use of breathing apparatus. In general, liposuction scars are about a half-centimeter, but may become almost imperceptible over time, and do not cause discomfort.

Who is the professional fit to perform the surgery?

The most indicated is that liposuction

Indication for liposuction

"The candidates for this plastic surgery are patients with localized fat and who hardly respond with exercises, diets or exercises," explains the physician. plastic surgeon Erick Oliveira, member of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery. Liposuction is not considered a treatment for obesity, nor for weight loss. His goal is body modeling and not weight elimination.

plastic surgeon Fernando de Almeida Prado recalls that liposuction is not a simple procedure. ? Lately we see a banalization of liposuction, however, it is a surgery like any other, which involves risks and specific care ?, explains.

Parts of the body that can be liposuction

Liposuction can be done anywhere body with localized fat. Abdomen, dorsal region, thighs, lateral of the breasts, arms, limb (papilla) are regions commonly submitted to this surgery.

It is possible to do lipo in several parts of the body during the same surgery, however, the plastic surgeon Fernando Almeida Prado warns of the importance of not having a long surgery. "It is also necessary to evaluate the presence of associated diseases and age of the patient in order to define the time limit of surgery."

If your option is to treat different regions in different surgeries, there is no need for minimum interval time between one liposuction and other

Types of lipo

Common liposuction: made with a cannula that sucks the fat from the selected region, a local anesthetic is done with sedation.

Liposculpture: in liposculpture in addition of fat removal it can be treated and placed in other regions of the body, totally changing the body contour.

Vibrolipo: In this type of lipo, the cannula is introduced, but a vibration is carried out to exit the fat . Because it is a minor change, the risks and recovery are similar.

Hidrolipo or tumescent liposuction: it uses an anesthetic solution (called a tumescent) to reduce pain at the site. It is also made in smaller regions, being considered a mini-lipo.

Laser liposuction: In addition to the common cannula, an optical fiber is introduced that breaks the fat cell membrane, causing it to be absorbed faster.

Mini-liposuction: is exactly like liposuction but it is done in a smaller area, being faster and taking only local or epidural anesthesia.

Time of surgery

"The duration of liposuction depends greatly on the extent and area to be aspirated, but on average , the procedure takes 3 to 4 hours, "explains plastic surgeon Erick de Oliveira, of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery.

Preoperative

The patient must fast in the eight hours prior to surgery. Blood and cardiologic examinations and chest radiography are fundamental before liposuction. The surgeon may also order ultrasound from the region to be operated and doppler (examination that allows visualization of the blood vessels) of the legs to check for blood thrombi.

Associated cosmetic surgeries

Other cosmetic surgeries such as mammoplasty silicone breast implants, and even facial surgeries can be done at the same operative time as liposuction. "However, the current recommendation is so that the surgery time is not too long, which may expose the patient's health more", explains plastic surgeon Fernando Almeida Prado.

Contraindications

People who have many diseases - such as hypertension, diabetes and obesity - has increased surgical risk. Therefore, you should talk to your doctor about the real need for a cosmetic surgery.

Length of stay

A large liposuction requires a minimum of 24 hours of hospitalization, but if surgery is minor, it is possible to go away until

Recovery after liposuction

The recovery of this surgery is quick, since there are few or no surgical stitches. A week later it is possible to return to work as long as it does not require much physical effort and about a month later the routine returns to normal. Analgesic medication, which should be prescribed by your doctor, and antibiotics, may be needed to prevent infections.

The use of modeling straps is indispensable after liposuction. "It compresses the liposuction regions, helping to shape the area, and helps reduce joint swelling after surgery," explains Plastic Surgeon Fernando.

The return to physical activity can be done 20 to 30 days after surgery, but in a light manner, and with progressive evolution until it returns to the level of the previous exercise.

By the first month the patient will be very swollen, thus, the weight will remain the same. But over time the edema decreases. Six months is the time needed for the final result to be seen. Hardly the place where the liposuction was done will once again have a fat deposit. This is because the number of fat cells only increases until adolescence. In adulthood they just have expanded size. According to the plastic surgeon Fernando Almeida Prado, the dorsal region, just above the buttocks, is the area with the most results. satisfactory in relation to liposuction. "In this case it is possible to remove fat from the flanks and graft it to the buttocks."

Liposuction risks

In liposuction surgery there are complications common to any surgery, such as bleeding, infection, venous thrombosis, pulmonary thromboembolism and death. The specific risks are: depression of the region, changes in the skin - such as flaccidity and roughness -, discoloration and even skin necrosis, and, of course, dissatisfaction with the results.Check before the consultation
