Ministry of Health incorporates 10 new integrative practices into SUS

The Ministry of Health announced on Monday (12) the inclusion of ten new practices in integrative and complementary medicine in the Unified Health System ). Now, the government now offers 29 therapeutic procedures to the population.

The treatments use therapeutic resources, based on traditional knowledge, aimed at curing and preventing various diseases, such as depression and hypertension. Among the new therapies are apitherapy, aromatherapy, bioenergetics, family constellation, chromotherapy, geotherapy, hypnotherapy, hand laying, ozonotherapy and floral therapy.

"These practices are an investment in health prevention to prevent people from getting sick "We need to continue moving towards health promotion instead of just caring for those who are sick," said Minister Ricardo Barros during the 1st International Congress on Integrative Practices and Public Health.

According to the ministry, the therapies are present in 9,350 establishments in 3,173 municipalities, of which 88% are offered in Primary Care. In 2017, 1.4 million individual appointments were recorded in integrative and complementary practices. In addition to the collective activities, it is estimated that about 5 million people per year participate in these practices in SUS.

Acupuncture is currently the most practiced with 707 thousand consultations and 277 thousand individual consultations. Second, there are the practices of Traditional Chinese Medicine with 151 thousand sessions, such as taichi-chuan and liangong. Then auriculotherapy appears with 142 thousand procedures.

Since 2006, when the National Policy for Integrative and Complementary Practices (PNPIC) was created, SUS was already offered five five procedures: acupuncture, homeopathy, phytotherapy, anthroposophy and thermalism.

Techniques Not Supported by Physicians

Despite scientifically proven benefits, the Federal Council of Medicine (CFM) recognizes only two of the 19 complementary practices included in the program. SUS: acupuncture and homeopathy.

So much so that the Brazilian Medical Association has released an official position against the deviation of public health funds for this type of therapy. for AMB, "it is outrageous that the resources of the SUS are directed at such practices, while each year we invest less in health. We see the use of the union budget, that is, the population's money, which should be applied in areas of health neglected, being spent on "therapies" with the total lack of scientific recognition. " See the full note on the official AMB website.
