Ministry of Health launches campaign to donate breast milk

The Ministry of Health today launched (20) the National Breastfeeding Donation Campaign, which aims to increase donations mainly to premature babies. This year's theme is "Be a donor of breastmilk and make a difference in the lives of many children."

The campaign aims to increase the number of new voluntary donors and the volume of breastmilk collected and distributed to newborns , especially low-weight preterm infants admitted to health facilities. Currently, the volume of breastmilk collected represents 55% to 60% of the real demand in the country.

According to the interim Minister of Health, Ana Paula Soter, the target to increase the breast milk donation by 15% priority for preterm infants. According to data from the Ministry of Health, 164 thousand women donated milk in this period, in order to increase the number of breastfeeding mothers, benefiting 178,000 newborns. The Brazilian network has 215 milk banks and 98 collection points. Currently, all states have at least one milk bank.

When you receive breast milk, your baby is protected from infections, diarrhea, and allergies. Breastfeeding also lowers the risk of diseases such as hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes and obesity. For the mother, breastfeeding helps the uterus regain its original size, reducing the risk of bleeding and anemia. The chances of acquiring diabetes or developing breast and ovarian cancer also decrease significantly with breastfeeding.

According to the Ministry of Health, every woman who breastfeeds is a possible human breast donor. Just be healthy and not be taking any medications that will interfere with breastfeeding. Anyone who is interested in donating breast milk should look for the nearest milk bank or call Health Dial at 136.

Children should know if they were born by assisted reproduction

Today, more and more assisted reproduction techniques are being used by couples who are struggling to have a child. However, despite treatments for infertility have become common, there are still several taboos related to the subject. When couples choose to seek some form of treatment to conceive, they hardly think whether or not they will tell the child how it was conceived.
