Ministry will extend vaccination against yellow fever nationwide
The measure is preventive and aims to anticipate protection against disease for the entire population in case of an increase in the area of circulation of the virus . With the expansion, 77.5 million people should be vaccinated all over the country.
"We are acting in advance to establish a schedule to vaccinate the entire Brazilian population. to vaccinate all Brazilians who have not yet been immunized in the adequate coverage for each of these areas. We will do this as a precaution, since the best way to avoid the disease is to vaccinate the population, "said Minister Ricardo Barros in a note. São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Bahia will be the first to extend vaccination to all municipalities, even earlier this year. In these three cases, the doses will be fractionated by one-fifth of the total dose, while in other states, the doses must be complete.
By April 2019, 1,586 new municipalities will be included as vaccine-recommended areas, reaching 100% of the national territory. Until then, the yellow fever vaccine was part of the routine of 23 states, nine of which had partial vaccinations.
In order to meet the country's demand in the coming years, the Ministry of Health requested the laboratory producing the vaccine. yellow fever, Bio-Manguinhos / Fiocruz, an increase in doses for the vaccination routine of 2019. Cases of yellow fever
