According to the result, it is possible to note that, as in Brazil, the practice has already conquered many American adepts. Among those interviewed, 84% of them had already had this hair removal and 16% had never shaved. The main reasons are:
59% For hygiene
- 46% Being part of the routine
- 31.5% To improve the appearance of the "vagina"
- 21% Because it is a partner preference
- In addition, they also revealed which of the situations that most led her to do intimate depilation:
56% For sex
- 46% For holidays
- 40% For medical visits
- authors of the study said that this practice is encouraged by the representation of women in the media and the internet. The trend, according to them, was born in Brazil. One of the main facts highlighted by the research is that the woman almost always performs this type of hair removal to please another person, either the partner or the doctor, for example.
But, after all, is intimate hair removal really more hygienic?
Not necessarily. Hygiene is primarily related to cleaning the area, not the amount of hair. "You can have excellent hygiene even with your hair," explains gynecologist Sueli Raposo. In this way, an intimate depilated area, but whose woman does not do the proper cleaning, will not be more hygienic than a well-cared and unsecured region - or with a more discreet, not total epilation. "Regardless of the woman's choice, it is important to take the necessary care with hygiene, such as the use of neutral or intimate soaps."
Depilar increases pleasure in sexual intercourse?
"There is no physiological relationship between depilation and pleasure sexual, "says gynecologist Sueli. What may happen is some women feel more comfortable with the intimate area shaved, or else leave it awake with the partner that epilation is a point to be considered to aid in arousal. At bottom, it's a matter of preference, and it's up to each of you to decide how you prefer.
Do the hair protect the vagina from infection?
Yes. According to dermatologist Valeria Campos of the Brazilian Society of Dermatology, epilation itself - whether with waxes or blades - leaves the skin of the vulva with pores half open or even with small fissures, favoring infections. That's why it's important to focus on pre and post-depilation care for those who choose to practice. "Sanitizing the area well before and washing and using calming products soon after the procedure is fundamental to avoid irritations," he explains. And for those who are in the depilation class, the tip is: it is recommended to preserve a hair band with a width of 2 cm on average, thus avoiding the direct friction of the vagina with clothes and absorbents, consequently reducing the risk of infections and irritations.
