Researchers find microplastics in water

Scientists found plastic fragments in tap water from different countries in a study on the contamination of plastics in the environment. The study was conducted by Orb Media, a non-profit journalistic organization and analyzed 159 drinking water samples collected by the five continents. According to the study, 83% of the samples contained plastic.

Microplastics are materials known to contain and absorb chemicals toxic to humans and animal research shows that they are released into the body. According to Professor Richard Thompson, it was clear that plastic would release these chemicals, and in fact, conditions in the gut would facilitate a fairly quick release. Their research has shown that microplastics are found in one-third of fish caught in the UK.

According to the study the United States had the highest contamination rate at 94% with plastic fibers found in tap water at places like Congress, Headquarters of the Environmental Protection Agency and Trump Tower in New York.

In Europe, Germany and France had the lowest contamination rate, with 72%. The average number of fibers found in each 500 ml sample ranged from 4.8 in the USA to 1.9 in Europe.

Given the scenario, could bottled water be a solution? Unfortunately not. This is because the same microplastics were found in water bottles sold in the United States.

New York State University microplastic specialist Sherri Mason explains that scientists have enough data to analyze the impact of microplastics on wildlife . "If this is impacting wildlife then it could impact human life in some way," he says.

Another study in the Republic of Ireland has also found microplastic contamination in tap water and in wells. Researcher Anne Marie Mahon of the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology explains that the impact of microplastics on health is not yet known, but that the current scenario raises an alert for further research.

The scale contamination by microplastics is just beginning to get clear. In Germany, other studies have already been carried out to identify the material in all 24 beer brands, as well as samples of honey and sugar. By 2015, researchers found that microplastics were present in the air and in people's homes.

Heart attack symptoms may be different in women

Pain or discomfort in the chest region is one of the major signs of a heart attack, but a study conducted in the United States suggests that women are not as likely to have this symptom as men. The research also states that the risk of death from the attack is greater among the female audience. Published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), the finding was made from data analysis of the National Registry of Myocardial Infarction between 1994 and 2006.
