Skin allergies: see what special care is taken of these manifestations in the body

Allergy means an overreaction of the body to food, pollutants, creams, medicines, mites, among others. Allergy is not exclusive to the skin: it can occur in the respiratory tract (rhinitis and bronchitis) and also in the digestive tract (diarrhea). Many allergies have no cutaneous manifestations.

If allergies are not taken care of properly, there is a risk that the skin may have residual spots or scars. It all depends on the degree of inflammation that happens and also on the repercussions, such as itching. In this case, there may be injury, ulcer and even scars.

There are many skin manifestations that appear because of allergy. Some of them are: eczema, urticaria, rash, fixed pigment erythema, erythema multiforme and estrófulo. The picture of these manifestations is quite different from each other and each one of them has a different history and conduct. Urticaria, for example, is characterized by red, raised plaques and lumps that may appear abruptly throughout the body, causing a lot of itching. With hives, the lips and internal respiratory organs can swell too much, leading to respiratory distress. Urticaria can be caused by medicines, foods (especially those containing preservatives and dyes), very strong odors, products applied to the skin and other factors. It is often difficult to establish the cause of the allergy, but this clarification is critical because re-exposure to the allergy causes a picture of similar and even more serious reactions. Treatment of urticaria can be done with corticosteroids, cortisone, and antihistamines.

Streptococcus is an allergy to insect bites and is very common among children 2 to 10 years of age. Streptococcus presents as red marbles, sometimes like a ball on the surface that itches and can become a sore. Streptococcus occurs by sensitization to insect venom, which can be mosquito, ant or flea, for example. With one or two bites, the child may already have many balls dotted around the body. This occurs mainly in the summer and in rural environments.

The picture lasts for a few days, compromising the whole body and leaving children with unsightly spots and scars (non-aesthetic scars). During the acute phase, when there are many pellets in the skin, the use of oral antiallergics, soothing ointments and anti-inflammatory for local use is indicated. In children, whose routine being disturbed by frequent stro- talous outbreaks, the indication is of vaccines intended to avoid not only the symptom, but the allergy itself.

Eczema is the generic name given to a skin change that promotes redness, blistering, itching, thickening and peeling of the skin. Eczema can occur in any part of the body and is generated by allergy, mainly contact dermatitis. This allergy is commonly caused by metals used in the ears and wrists, such as watch and costume jewelry. It can also occur by cosmetics, cleaning chemicals, hair dyes, synthetic yarn clothes, dyes and preservatives. In this case, people have contact with substances and become allergic after some time. The lesion causes a lot of itching and is always more intense where there was direct contact with the agent causing the allergy. Often, in order to discover the agent, it is necessary to perform a contact test: a standard battery of fifty substances is applied to the person's back and after 48 hours the material is removed, observing the reaction of the skin. The test is considered positive for allergy when the site turns red, with balls, and itches.

Hands are most affected by contact with chemicals. Detergents, soaps and the full range of products from this line can cause allergies. Local treatment, especially with penicillin and sulfa, may also cause sensitization and contact allergy.

Treatment in such cases is to remove the product or suspect products and use corticosteroid creams or ointments or, if there is evidence contact, permanently remove that substance from the reach of the allergic. It is common the occurrence of reddening and scaling only by primary skin irritation. In this case there is no sensitization of the body, but only skin wear by pH change and thinning. Housewives suffer from this by constantly manipulating cleaning products. When there is only irritation and no sensitization, the contact test is negative and it is enough to rule out the use of the strongest products, such as detergents, soaps, bleaches.

There is a lot of confusion between contact dermatitis and primary irritant dermatitis, clinic may be the same. The contact test solves this question at once: positive, if the case is allergic, and negative, if it is allergic to skin irritation.
