Smokers are more likely to develop arrhythmia
Recently the withdrawal of flavored cigarettes from the market has shown the importance of recognizing how harmful smoking is in all its forms. Replacement of ordinary cigarette by those with low nicotine content is also not beneficial, since when a harmful substance is withdrawn, another should be put in place to maintain the properties of the cigarette. The same goes for electronic cigarettes, menthol, or with extra filter.
Smoking is related to the development of cardiovascular diseases, but the relationship between smoking and arrhythmias is not clear. The ARIC registry that aimed to identify risk factors for atherosclerotic diseases - such as angina, heart attack, carotid artery disease and other arteries - was carried out in the United States, followed by about 15,000 people to find out what could lead to the onset of these diseases. > Former smokers, although they are at greater risk than those who never smoked, have a lower incidence of atrial fibrillation than those who still smoke.
When patients who smoke actively (smokers) are separated, they have smoked (ex-smokers) and who never smoked (controls), it was possible to observe the following:
- Smokers who have smoked have more atrial fibrillation - a type of arrhythmia - compared to those who never smoked. are at a higher risk than those who never smoked, have a lower incidence of atrial fibrillation than those who still smoke.
This arrhythmia can cause strokes (cerebrovascular accidents), worsening of heart function and of the use of anticoagulants. Other studies indicate that more than 90% of young people under the age of 35 suffering from a heart attack are smokers. This is at an age when acute infarction is a rare event.
People who smoke have a higher risk of a heart attack during cardiac and noncardiac surgeries, and are also more likely to be withdrawn from mechanical ventilation (the device that keeps the person breathing while anesthetized.)
Today there are several ways of treating smoking, associating the support of psychologists with nicotine patches and oral medications. In other words, you get more money than you never smoked, but quitting smoking at any time brings benefits to the patient and family.
The National Health Surveillance Agency ruled on Friday (11 ) the suspension of the manufacture and sale of medicines of six brands that use Amoxicillin in its formula. The component suffered a change in its synthetic route which was not authorized by the agency, which eventually resulted in the ban.
