Smoking cessation can improve back pain

For years, research related smoking with increased risk of low back pain, disc herniation and worse recovery of patients who underwent spinal surgery. Now, a study published in the December issue of the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, , found that smokers who suffer from back pain report greater comfort after quitting than those who continue to smoke. The research was conducted by a specialist at the University of Rochester in the United States. Nearly all American adults have consulted with a physician at least once because of back pain. Thus, we verified the smoking history of more than 5,300 people who have already consulted. All patients had their reports of axial (back) or radicular (leg) pain monitored for eight months and received treatment that could include surgical interventions. At the time of care, patients who had never smoked and patients who had dropped cigarettes reported pain significantly lower than smokers or those who had dropped the addiction during the study. It was also found that those who quit during treatment reported a greater decrease in pain than those who continued to smoke. According to the study author, increased pain is due to the effects of nicotine in the body. Therefore, those who wish to end the problem should not only adhere to treatment but also quit addiction. Also check for other aggravations of back pain: Weight

Overweight or obese people have lower spine flexibility and limited resistance to large joints. This, coupled with reduced muscle strength, makes these people unable to maintain a fixed posture for a long time.

Posture

Watching television lying with its head resting on the arm of the sofa is highly detrimental to the spine. The ideal position is sitting with your feet flat on the floor and your back fully resting on the back of the sofa.

Pillow Not too tall, not too soft, too soft, too hard. This is the ideal pillow. Lying sideways, the spine should be aligned with the brace. Sleeping without the pillow is also harmful.

Sedentary

Sedentary lifestyle promotes loss of flexibility and muscle weakness of the back, pelvis and thighs. This leads to a limitation of movement and the incorrect realization of movements, such as lowering an attachment to an object on the ground.

The stereotype, often seen in films of peasants with darkened and caved teeth during the Middle Ages, may be only a myth.
