SUS to offer thrombophilia examination in São Paulo

The Unified Health System - SUS now offers the women of São Paulo (SP) the test capable of detecting thrombophilia, which is the tendency that one has to suffer a thrombosis. This condition generates the formation of blood clots in one or more veins located in the lower part of the body, usually in the legs.
The examination, guaranteed by the new law 16,599, is performed with only one blood sample, indicating if the patient carries genetic susceptibility to thrombosis. If so, the doctor will look at other factors that, in addition to genetic risk, may further increase a woman's chances of suffering the condition.
Thrombosis risk factors include family history, gestations, use hormonal contraceptive methods with estrogen, smoking, hypertension, high cholesterol and triglycerides, among others.

Migraine can lead to heart attacks and strokes
According to data from the Brazilian Headache Society (SBCe), migraine is estimated to reach from 12% to 15% of the general population, with a prevalence of 17% among women. With the predominance of the disease, during 15 years, 574 patients aged 55 to 94 years were followed through neurological exams and questionnaires about the disease.

The Brazilian press recently passed on the (rare!) Case of the death of an 18-day American baby who was kissed by a family member. This is not common, and parents can rest easy. But some guidelines for newborn care are important. We consider the newborn to be the child until the 28th day of birth. This is the most critical period?
