SUS will offer new treatment for hepatitis C

O (SUS), which will be offered a new hepatitis C drug free of charge. The decision was published in the Federal Official Gazette this Thursday (March 15). in 180 days from this date.

The treatment is a combination of two substances (elbasvir and grazoprevir) that treat types 1 and 4 of the virus, so it will inhibit the reproduction of hepatitis C virus so that there is fewer copies in the body, and thus fewer associated symptoms.

According to the Ministry the drug's introduction into the country can generate savings of 68-87 million reais in the first year of adoption, according to a committee report that evaluated the new drug.

The drug is produced by Merck, which has its headquarters in the United States. The drug is also available in the UK health system which, like SUS, is also universal.

What is Hepatitis C?

Hepatitis C is a viral disease that leads to inflammation of the liver and rarely arouses symptoms. In fact, most people do not know they have hepatitis C often discovered through a blood donation or by performing routine exams or when symptoms of advanced liver disease appear, which usually happens decades later.

According to the World Hepatitis Trust, about 500 million people in the world are infected with hepatitis B and C virus, and only 5% of them know they have the disease. New remedy for rheumatoid arthritis will be offered by SUS

People with rheumatoid arthritis may have another medication to treatment in the Unified Health System (SUS): tofacitinibe citrate. The SUS has up to 180 days from the last Thursday (2) to make the medicine available in the country. The remedy is indicated for adults with active, moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis, with an inadequate response to one or more disease-modifying drugs.
