Obesity can affect sperm quality, study finds

When the couple decides that it is time to raise the family and unsuccessfully attempt pregnancy for a certain time, concern appears and some questions begin to be made: What is wrong? Who will be responsible for the failures in the attempts to get pregnant?
The risk factors for infertility are numerous and can affect men and women, among the main problems are reproductive organs, age, sexually transmitted diseases, weight and smoking.
However, when this becomes a chill between couples, women are given various advice on how to change their lifestyle to increase their chances of becoming pregnant, but it is important to start focusing on men's health as well.
According to one new research, obesity can negatively affect sperm and hence make the dream of pregnancy more difficult. The report, published in the journal " Andrology ", is the first study on abnormal sperm parameters in obese men.
For research, researchers compared sperm of 1,285 men using specialized computer software to to determine how weight can affect semen counts and quality.
The results showed that obesity was related to lower semen volume, sperm count, concentration, motility, and other sperm problems. "The health and reproductive performance of spermatozoa in obese men are more likely to be compromised both qualitatively and quantitatively," says Gottumukkala Ramaraju, lead author of the study. "The results from our current data set suggest that efforts focused on male weight loss prior to conception are guaranteed for couples looking for infertility treatment. "
Obesity vs. Infertili
Previous studies have already found that overweight can affect a woman's fertility by achieving ovulation, but this evidence that obesity can also harm male sperm is new.
In addition, one study to be presented at the 93rd Annual Meeting of the Society of Endocrinology in Boston, USA, indicated that women who gained a lot of weight during pregnancy tend to have newborns with a high amount of body fat, increasing the chances of obesity in childhood. This research was based on the follow-up of 56 mothers, 31 of whom had gained regular weight during pregnancy and 25, excessive weight. According to the Institute of Medicine of the United States, the normal one is that the pregnant woman of a single son gains of 11 to 15 kilos; overweight women, 7 to 11 and obese, 5 to 9 kg.
According to the results of the research, obese women before pregnancy had a 70% chance of exceeding the weight gain during pregnancy. Regardless of the pre-pregnancy weight, all those who exceeded the recommended gain had babies above the ideal weight.

Marijuana smoking can cause periodontal diseases
Smoking marijuana is not only illegal, it also increases the chances of having gum disease. A study in the Journal of the American Medical Association showed that young people who smoke a lot of marijuana are at a significant risk of developing periodontal diseases. The study, conducted in New Zealand, is the first survey to evaluate, in the long term, the relationship between smoking marijuana and gum disease.
