Vitamin D intake during pregnancy favors baby development

Vitamin D intake during pregnancy favors baby development

Infants whose mothers followed the daily recommendation of vitamin D intake during gestation present higher scores on developmental tests according to a Spanish study. Experts warn, however, that women adhering to a balanced diet and within the weight range considered healthy have no reason to worry. The research was published in the journal Pediatrics .

About 2,000 mothers participated in the study. All had vitamin D levels in the body measured during pregnancy, especially in the second trimester. The babies, in turn, underwent a battery of tests lasting approximately one hour. The

Center for Research in Environmental Epidemiology research team in Spain found that infants whose mothers had optimal levels of vitamin D showed better performance in tests than those with mothers who had vitamin D deficiency in the body. According to one of the researchers who participated in the analysis, overweight or obese women were the most likely to have low levels of vitamin D. The main source of this nutrient is sunlight: 10 to 15 minutes under the sun of two to three times a week is enough. Vitamin D can also be obtained in food, but consumption should be moderate, since these foods are often fatty.

Food sources of vitamin D

The daily recommendation of vitamin D intake from the US Dietary Reference Intake (DRI ) is 5 to 10 mgc for men aged 13 to 50 years; of 15 mcg for men aged 51 to 70 years; 5 mcg for women aged 13-50 years and 10 mcg for women aged 51-70 years.

Sardine and canned tuna

Every 100 g of sardines contain 4.8 mcg of vitamin D and the same amount of canned tuna contains 6.7 mcg of the nutrient. The options are a delight in toasts, salads, or sandwiches.

Buffalo

Each steak of approximately 68 g of beef liver contains 0.8 mcg of vitamin D. Although this portion of the meat is not much appreciated, it can gain a new flavor grilled or cooked with natural herbs.

Eggs

Each unit offers 1.1 mcg of vitamin D, thus being a very rich source of this nutrient. Prefirate it cooked or roasted, since the fried version carries a lot of fat.

Cheddar cheese

Each 100 g of cheddar offers 0.6 mcg of the nutrient. The problem is that it is extremely caloric. It also prefers the traditional versions, sold in rotisseries, that can preserve part of the nutritional value of the cheese.

Speech therapy helps to recognize problems in the child's mouth

I decided to write this inspired text by reading the doctoral thesis of one of the greatest speech therapists in Brazil. In the survey, which was intended to be conducted with children ages 5 to 7, considered "normal" by parents, teachers and dentists, she found the incredible statistic of 56% of arcade changes in children.

Help, my child needs to gain weight!

Help, my child needs to gain weight!

Meal time is almost a martyrdom, and you do not settle for noting that your child's weight is incompatible with his age. The whole family comments on how skinny he is and at school the difference from his peers is evident. Vitamins, supplements and recipes (including those very old ones) have already made their actions.
